Ruben Lousberg

IT supporter who writes the software the office actually needs, and has been modding games since long before that.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

You never stop learning, and you never should. I am always eager to dive into a challenge and understand how things work. Curiosity fuels my passion for IT, and I bring a keen eye for detail and a commitment to excellence to everything I build.

Chronicle

From Belgian Limburg to Denmark Midtjylland, with a few detours through game engines and a career change.

  1. Always a computer in the house

Limburg, Belgium. By the time I got my own PC I already had a good grasp of what a computer could do, and I wanted to know how it did it.

  2. Things got out of hand fast

Mods and plugins for Minecraft, then Skyrim through the Creation tools, then Project Zomboid, where I still maintain mods for a lot of players today. Modding also taught me exactly where the walls are.

  3. Sosu assistant, specialised in elderly care

I trained and worked in care in Belgium. It was good work, but my passion for IT burned brighter than my passion for helping people, and I did not want to spend the rest of my life ignoring that.

  4. Moved to Denmark, alone, as Covid ended

New country, new language, new career. I learned Danish and started as an IT supporter.

  5. Walls found, engines changed

Hitting the limits of modding pushed me into Unity, where most of my programming foundations came from. I never shipped a game with it. When the 2023 pricing change landed, I moved to Unreal Engine and later picked up Godot.

  6. Supporter by day, programmer by trade

I finish my IT supporter apprenticeship on 8 January, then continue at the same workplace as a datatekniker specialising in programming.
